The Devon Antenatal & First Aid Philosophy
Devon Antenatal & First Aid was founded by Catherine who is a University Accredited antenatal teacher and first aid instructor as well as a mother of two boys. Catherine studied through the NCT, University of Worcester and Nuco Training.
“As a new mother I initially felt overwhelmed with the vast amount of information available from evidence based facts to old wives tales. However, once I had found a way of discovering information that was accurate and useful I felt more confident in making choices for myself and my family. As a result of this I am passionate about providing expectant parents and their birth supporters with up to date, evidence based information which will empower individuals to make informed decisions that are right for them”.
Devon Antenatal & First Aid’s model is simple. We offer fantastic value, quality assured, accredited, evidence-based, practical and FUN antenatal classes and courses.
Devon Antenatal & First Aid’s vision is for every parent to be informed, prepared and confident in their ability to care for their baby. Our mission is to provide realistic, fun and confidence-building antenatal courses, and other products and services, that support our vision to inform and prepare parents-to-be, resulting in more confident, healthier and happier parents and babies.
Devon Antenatal & First Aid’s values have been developed with parents in min and our values even SPELL parent!!
Here is what we aim to bring to everything we do, whether it is our antenatal courses, our postnatal support and workshops and of course out ever popular first aid courses.
Progressive. We keep up to date with current advice so you don’t have to. We are always evolving, we stay in touch with parents and delegates and they let us know what they are worried about, what their experiences are and how we can improve our courses. So our courses are continually evolving.
Authentic. Our courses are developed by parents, for parents – making them uniquely grounded and based in reality, not ideology. We make sure we keep up to date with the latest evidence and research, and we balance this with the reality of having a baby.
Rounded. Our multi-faceted view of parenting means we have no hidden agenda, no philosophy or parenting style we want you to adopt, and no restrictions on the information we can give you.
Empowering. Providing information to parents so they can make informed decisions. We want to emphasise the importance of parental instinct but there is a lot of conflicting advice which can be worrying for first time parents. Our aim is to give clear unbiased information enabling you to make the right decisions for you and your baby.
Non judgemental. Everyone is treated equally regardless of how they give birth, how they feed their baby, their family situation, how old or young they are, what their household or home is like, their sexuality and relationship status, their religion or beliefs, their ethnicity, or anything else.
Trained. All the courses are ran by an experienced, fully qualified and regulated First Aid Instructor who is also an NCT trained antenatal teacher with a current licence to practice. All parents are offered ongoing unbiased and open minded support and up to date, evidence based information until the new baby is 6 weeks old.
‘Excellent value for money and I came away much more confident in carrying out first aid, which is invaluable as a mummy. Highly recommended. Even included tea and (very good) cake’ Sara
