The Devon Antenatal Family Centre Philosophy

Devon Antenatal Family Centre is a Community Interest Company (CIC) which means that all profits go back into the company to benefit the local community.  Devon Antenatal Family Centre was founded by Catherine who is a University Accredited antenatal and hypnobirthing practitioner, first aid and Safeguarding instructor as well as a mother. Catherine studied through the NCT, University of Worcester and Nuco Training.

Devon Antenatal Family Centre’ CICs model is simple. We offer grassroots support to ALL families. We hold the belief that families with a range of experiences should have a safe, inclusive space where they can come together to connect and receive any support that they may need. This may be achieved through our under 5’s play cafe, playgroups, wellness cafe, craft groups, our ‘new to you’ shop or our easily accessible clothes bank. We believe is tackling barriers and stigma that some may be experiencing by ensuring we are easy to access and maintain a safe and supportive space for all.

We offer fantastic value, quality assured, accredited, evidence-based, practical and FUN courses, workshops and support groups. All of our services have subsidies to those who need it.

Devon Antenatal Family Centre’s vision is for every parent to be informed, prepared and confident in their ability to care for their family. Our mission is to provide realistic, fun and confidence-building support through our play cafe, support groups and antenatal courses which all support our vision to inform and support caregivers, resulting in more confident, healthier and happier families.

Devon Antenatal Family Centre’s values have been developed with families in mind and our values even SPELL parent!!

Here is what we aim to bring to everything we do:

Progressive.

We keep up to date with current advice so you don’t have to. We are always evolving, we stay in touch with parents and delegates and they let us know what they are worried about, what their experiences are and how we can improve our courses.  So our courses are continually evolving.

Authentic.

Our courses are developed by parents, for parents – making them uniquely grounded and based in reality, not ideology. We make sure we keep up to date with the latest evidence and research, and we balance this with the reality of having a baby.

Rounded.

Our multi-faceted view of parenting means we have no hidden agenda, no philosophy or parenting style we want you to adopt, and no restrictions on the information we can give you.

Empowering.

Providing information to parents so they can make informed decisions. We want to emphasize the importance of parental instinct but there is a lot of conflicting advice which can be worrying for first time parents.  Our aim is to give clear unbiased information enabling you to make the right decisions for you and your baby.

Non-judgmental.

Everyone is treated equally regardless of how they give birth, how they feed their baby, their family situation, how old or young they are, what their household or home is like, their sexuality and relationship status, their religion or beliefs, their ethnicity, or anything else.

Trained.

All the courses are ran by an experienced, fully qualified and regulated First Aid Instructor who is also an NCT trained antenatal teacher with a current licence to practice. All parents are offered ongoing unbiased and open minded support and up to date, evidence based information.
